Preakness Stakes Betting Odds: Bodemeister Favored
There has not been a Triple Crown winner in horse racing since 1978, when Affirmed dazzled fans with a combination of grace and speed through horse racing’s toughest seven week stretch. This year, only one horse has the chance to become the next Triple Crown winner, I’ll Have Another. The horse that stole the show late at the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago still has not convinced gamblers that he is the horse to beat at the Preakness Stakes. It is Bodemeister, not I’ll Have Another, that is the morning line favorite to win the Preakness, with odds of 8/5.I’ll Have Another upset Bodemeister in the Derby, but few analysts believe that the Derby winner can duplicate that feat. I’ll Have Another is the second choice at the Preakness, carrying odds of 5/2. If the horse wins, he will go to the Belmont Stakes looking for history.”Typically, the horse that wins the Derby fairs well in the Preakness and then struggles in the third leg at Belmont,” says Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins. “So it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that I’ll Have Another comes on strong again today. There wouldn’t be much shock if he wins.” After the top two, Went The Day Well and Creative Cause are the next choice, with odds of 6/1.The 11-horse field is one of the smaller fields in recent history, and the other seven horses all have odds of at least 12/1. Daddy Nose Best is 12/a, Teeth The Dog has odds of 15/1, and Zetterholm is 20/1.Four horses bear the distinction of being the long shots this evening. Tiger Walk, Pretension, Optimizer, and Cozzetti are all 30/1 choices. There was one week between the Derby and the Preakness, and after today, the horses will have three weeks before they meet in New York for the third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes.
